Our inquiries here chart important chapters in the ‘history of the present’, especially in light of recent revelations that the psychological methods once used to protect against ‘brainwashing’ have been reverse engineered as techniques of ‘enhanced interrogation’ in the ‘War on Terror’. The Hidden Persuaders project studies the history of ‘brainwashing’ and other forms of mind control as they relate to the expertise and status of the psy professions during the Cold War.
